Debbie and Jesse were both born and raised in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
Debbie was raised in a Christian environment, her family has always been involved in their Church. Up until Debbie met Jesse in 1990, she didn’t have much knowledge of music.
Jesse taught her how to play the guitar and the singing came naturally.
Debbie truly believes the Lord has put her and Jesse together for a powerful purpose, to touch the hearts of others through their music. Through Debbie, the Lord has lead Jesse away from his road of destruction and has blessed them with their ministry of music and testimony.
Jesse up until 1990 didn’t go to Church, as he was born during the second world war and was raised in a ghetto area. As a child, he went without food and proper clothing. His family moved a lot and he didn’t have much of a home life. As a result of this, Jesse became involved in gangs and crime. As he became a teenager and a young man he became involved in drugs, alcohol, ran with a bike gang and spent time in prison in Canada and the United States. Jesse learned to play guitar at a young age.
Through his teenage and young adult years his guitar and his music were his main interest and even more so now.In 1990, Jesse was involved in a fight ,was stabbed six times and left for dead. As a result of the stabbing, Jesse has been left horribly scarred, partially paralysed on the right side of his body and will be suffering with chronic pain for the rest of his life. It was at this time, with Debbie’s help and through the grace of God, he was saved.
Both the Garretts have an incredible testimony, as Debbie was there the night Jesse was attacked and called 911. When help arrived, the police and fire department did not know who the victim was as Debbie was covered with Jesse’s blood. Debbie, with the assistance of the 911 operator, kept Jesse alive until help arrived. The Doctors told Jesse, later, that if it hadn’t been for Debbie and a miracle from the Lord, he would not have survived.
Debbie and Jesse are now happily married and devote all of their time volunteering to help the sick and elderly, and enriching the lives of others with their testimony and music.
The Garretts share their ministry with many seniors homes, Bereaved family functions, prisons, youth groups, missions, feeding and clothing the homeless, numerous benefit concerts to help sick children, Country fairs, and many Churches across Canada and the USA. They performed the Gospel portion of the Havelock Jamboree, the 5th largest Jamboree in Canada, opening up for Ricky Skaggs, they sang their original gospel songs on the 25th Annual Country Music Awards Show, and shared their music at the Cowboy Church in Nashville Tennessee, with Joanne Cash, broadcast live, via satellite to over 1 billion people in 120 countries world wide.
They appreciated these larger functions but do not want to glorify themselves, they would rather share their ministry with the smaller Churches, prisons, youth groups etc… They are a full time faith ministry.
The Garretts have eight CD’s, they are Jesus Walks, In The Hands Of God, Lord Can You Hear Me, Three Crosses On The Mound, The Holy Ghost Spirit , HIS GIFT, The Best Of The Garretts Volume 1, and Jesse's Testimony. They contain a number of songs written by both Debbie and Jesse including traditional and favourite country gospel songs, which are played on radio stations in Canada, the USA and Europe.
Jesse's Testimony gives a detailed account of his life before he was saved and most important how the Lord worked incredible miracles in his life then and now.
Their music reflects their love for each other and their devotion to the Lord.
Jesse is living proof how our Lord is still and always will be in control!!!
